Architectural Tradition as the Core, Technology as the Way: Research on Curriculum Teaching Mode of “Surveying and Mapping of Ancient Architecture” Course at Nanjing Tech University
Abstract:With the advent and application of advanced surveying instruments,the role of technology in architectural heritage has been growing steadily. This shift has promoted corresponding changes in university education. Nanjing Tech University is improving its ancient architectural surveying and mapping course, which is recognized as a national first-class undergraduate course. The core of this course lies in understanding “traditional architectural construction ideas”, with the goal of mastering the skills required for surveying and mapping ancient architecture. Our approach therefore must evolve and provide a theoretical guidance for practice through integrating scientific research and teaching. This integration has yield fruitful outcomes in various aspects such as production projects, scientific research, and teaching achievements. Seizing the opportunity of practical teaching reform, the course will explore how to incorporate the excellent Chinese architectural traditions into the training system of architecture major at Nanjing Tech University.
