Abstract:Yingde City’s Hongqi Tea Factory, built during the 1950s-1960s, was successfully inscribed on the fifth batch of the National Industrial Heritage List in 2021. It features a diverse range of structural roof types, including Howe wooden truss, wood-and-steel composite truss (Fink style, A-shaped), brick arches and shells, prefabricated reinforced concrete composite triangular truss, and so on. Over the two-year architectural surveying and mapping teaching process, based on the existing experience of “mapping combined with drawing”, the teaching draws on the training approach of “the Constructional detail” course. With the theme of construction cognition,it commences from the observation of wood, steel, brick, concrete and other materials, in order to guide students to think about the construction systems and logics behind various materials in a specific historical period. With the progress of surveying and mapping technology, the value of architectural surveying and mapping as an architecture course may be more reflected in helping students construct an architectural knowledge system by integrating what they have learned in class through on-site observation, reflection and expression, thereby cultivating students’ power of observation, understanding and action.
