From Historical Understanding to the Integration of General and Specialized Knowledge: Reform and Practice of the Teaching Mode for Ancient Architecture Surveying and Mapping at HUST
Abstract:“Ancient Architecture Protection and Surveying and Mapping” is a required course for architecture undergraduates at Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Historically, the surveying activities under this course have involved a wide array of architecturally valuable building types spanning extensive geographical areas. Through the sustained efforts of the course team, two national first-class undergraduate courses, virtual simulation experimental teaching and offline courses, have been developed. This paper seeks to concisely review the evolution of the surveying course's teaching mode, transitioning from a focus on historical understanding to the integration of broad and specialized knowledge. By employing practical examples, it dissects the characteristics of the curriculum system construction. Additionally, it investigates the methods and pathways for aligning the course objectives with contemporary trends and reflects on the contributions and implications of the in-depth teaching reform.
