Carrying Forward the Legacy, Pioneering the Future: A Seventy-year Review of Architectural Surveying Education of Ancient Buildings at Tianjin University
Abstract:By reviewing the seventy-year development of architectural heritage surveying and mapping education at Tianjin University, this paper summarizes its evolutionary process through three distinct phases: traditional surveying, digital surveying, and information-based surveying. Focusing on the new challenges emerging since the 21st century - such as architectural education reforms, advancements in surveying technologies, and diversified heritage conservation needs - it highlights the innovative practices of the teaching team. Upholding the philosophy of learning from classical traditions, the team has systematically developed a comprehensive pedagogical framework through optimizing teaching methodologies, integrating new technologies, and innovating in the presentation of research outcomes. This education system, characterized by structural coherence, standardized protocols, multidisciplinary diversity, and research-oriented features, has demonstrated remarkable effectiveness in practical applications. The accumulated experience over the years can offer invaluable insights for elevating architectural heritage documentation practices and cultivating innovative professionals in China's cultural heritage domain.
