Abstract：Architectural heritage survey is an original professional work which is scientific and artistic. It expresses, presents and interprets the value and significance of architectural heritage by recording the architectural heritage information. In essence，it is a translation as well as a reconstruction of the identity, value and significance of the heritage. In the process of translation and reconstruction, drawing is essential to cognize and understand the heritage. Therefore, the level of sketching and precision of measuring are the two factors to determine the precision of survey. Based on the current surveying technique and instruments, this paper figures out that sketching and measuring are two basic survey approaches, with different methods and technical advantages in the translation and reconstruction. Accordingly, the translation and reconstruction of the heritage information require closer cooperation of sketching and measuring.
