Abstract:The current production of images is no longer a tool or supplement for the built environment; rather, it permeates a wide range of scenarios within the social network intertwined with the entire construction activity. This article, inspired by a topic of an architectural seminar in 2013, attempts to break through the boundaries and reexamine the construction activity and the role of architects today. By tracing the evolution and expansion of the generation mechanism of architectural images across key historical junctures, it reveals how the practical and imaginative dimensions have been integrated. The study emphasizes the necessity of thoroughly analyzing the “conditions of possibility”in different scenarios, arguing that only through such analysis can the effectiveness of architectural criticism be maintained when confronted with dilemmas.
