Abstract:The core of urban design methodology is the structured organization. The centralized other organizational structures have always been one of the mainstream modes of contemporary planning and design. Although this has greatly improved space efficiency and security, but it has at the same time brought forth convergence of city scape, lack of innovation vitality and a series of social problems at the technical level. The loss of urban self-organizing function is its primary cause. The stripe is a spatial structure that can effectively activate self-organized activities and landscape. On the basis of briefly tracing the origin and development of the strip prototype, this paper reveals the internal binary mechanism of modernity and the structural potential of decentralization, then further analyzes the essence of self-organizing, which is different from the conventional organizational construction. With the local practice of the south central axis in Beijing, the structured principle of strip schema is transformed into a design methodology of combining other-organization and self-organization with the underlying logic of binary dialectical unity in order to preliminarily discuss the theoretical model of contemporary urban space production and expand new perspectives for the study of urban design methodology.
