Abstract:Well-designed public space is increasingly seen as crucial in achieving environmental, social and economic sustainability and public well-being. In contemporary urban society, more and more privately owned public spaces and “pseudo-public spaces” in urban complexes have emerged along with the three-dimensional urban development, and the difficulty of evaluating publicness has increased. Therefore, the conventional ways of evaluating public spaces need to be reconsidered. Although accessibility has been emphasized as the basic attribute of public space, its three dimensional visualization analysis and evaluation methods have not been applied to public space in three-dimensional urban design. By deploying 3D spatial network analysis, this study analyzes and visualizes accessibility of three-dimensional urban space. Publicness of three-dimensional urban design is evaluated with the STAR model, providing an approach to urban planning and design of public space in such urban design.
