Abstract:Spectators' comfort is a crucial factor contributing to seating rate and the long development of football stadia. Wind-driven rain (WDR) is one of the dominant weather events that impacts spectators' comfort in China's Hot-summer and Cold-winter Zone. The interaction mechanism between football stadium roof and WDR distribution on stands is essential in design. This study evaluates the WDR sheltering performance of roofs of 24 typical football stadia based on stand wetting ratio by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations. It then proposes optimization design strategies of roof, which aims to enrich theoretical basis for evidence-based design of stadia.
