Abstract：Based on the attitude of “as found” held by the German architect O. M. Ungers, this paper analyses the concept of “dialectic city” developed from his idea of “grossform”. With this city model with a deep understanding of the complex situation of contemporary cities, it discusses the related “architectural intervention” strategy through the urban design of the Tiergarten area in Berlin, reveals how architecture transcends its own limitations to impact on the larger urban spatial structure, and points out the enlightenment significance of the important thought behind the connection between architecture and cities to the urban construction in China.
