Abstract:For a long time, travel has been regarded as a necessary part in the system of architectural knowledge, which holds some important significance for design practice and historical research. Based on the theoretical framework of“discursive formation”, this paper analyzes the multiple characteristics in travel experiences of architects as professionals from the perspectives of behavioral motivations, representational mediums, and research methodology. Then it attempts to reveal the potential epistemological risks and limitations of the“empirical”premises in architectural practice and research. This study also provides a reference for understanding the contemporary situation and some relevant problems of architecture as a discipline in college institution.
