Abstract：The Dong people have adapted to the specific natural and cultural environment for a long time, and created their xingzhi of house with long-lasting national and regional characteristics. Modernization and urbanization have had a huge impact on traditional residential culture, and consequently the xingzhi of Dong house needs to be reconstructed in respond to environmental changes. With the method of architectural anthropology, this paper makes an historical overview of the evolution of traditional and contemporary Dong house, and reveals the patterns of modern structural and spatial changes, as well as the conflicts between traditional living culture and current form of house. Furthermore, this paper proposes a plan for housing improvement of Dong, which might effectively inherit the traditional living culture while conforming to the contemporary cultural psychology and construction customs.
