Abstract：Wooden construction in traditional Naxi crafts has been maintained through the renovation of Lijiang Dayan Ancient Town. However, under the impact of commercial economy, the crafts tend to be productive rather than creative. It is unable to keep pace with with the modern life, or to be connected to modern architectural design concept. Triangle Hotel aims to build the connection between local crafts and contemporary design so as to spread the spirit of vernacular construction. A theory of “Half-Architecture” in Triangle Hotel supposes to improve traditional tectonic with a design concept, and to settle construction issues back to local craftsmen at the same time. Vernacular wisdom will inspire new modern architectural discourses in the context of tradition.
