Abstract：Architecture originates from the transformation, optimization and even subversion of reality, so as to meet the space, form and spiritual needs in the process of human inhabitation and development. Space shelter is an old but also new problem in architecture. Inherently, the development of architecture is also accompanied by various natural and social environmental disasters of different levels, categories and degrees. In the process of historical development, countermeasures, development and evolution have been gradually achieved to face all kinds of catastrophes. As an inevitable and indispensable part of the system adjustment in the natural and social development, catastrophe plays a subtle but important role in the game between security and crisis. This research analyses the significance of catastrophe to architecture from the perspective of “understanding, coping, relevance and identity”, and then further discusses the responsibilities, values and development suggestions of architecture after forging under the topic of “Safe City”.
