Abstract:This paper reveals a continuous top-down microscopic process of urban public space, and observes the influence of public space on user’s behavior in three rail transit stations in the central areas of Shanghai. The study selects three indicators of public space supply and microcosmic quality respectively, then analyses their impacts on urban vitality. The indicators of public space supply comprise area, density and ratio of public space, while those of microcosmic quality comprise space enclosure, business interface and seat. The study finds that public space supply and microcosmic quality both have important implications on user’s behavior and can forecast city activity, and both of them play important roles in the highly developed environment of the rail transit stations.
