Abstract:In recent years, the health problems caused by indoor air pollution cannot be ignored. Volatile organic compounds (VOC), the major harmful pollutant, come from a wide range of sources and release for a long time. Numerous studies have demonstrated the ability of potted plants to remove VOC from the indoor air. Comparing with potted plants, the living wall system saves space, and produces efficient and safe air purification effect. This paper investigates 10 instantiations of living walls in Wuhan city and summarizes the typology and spatial significance of the indoor living wall system. By combining measurements and experiments, it then comprehensively analyzes the purification effect of the living wall on indoor air.
