Abstract：Mies van der Rohe always pursued the unity between abstract spatial forms and the logic of physical construction, and carried out a lot of design practices in structural order. In this paper, firstly, the contradictions and conflicts in Mies’ architecture are analyzed. Secondly, the column and rod are used as an opportunity to explain the exploration process of structural order in the three stages of bridging the contradiction, namely, discovering the contradiction between structure and form, making a tectonic attempt to separate the enclosure from the support, and completing the comprehensive expression of tectonics through the order of structure. Finally, the development process and significance of his architectural concept of “clear construction” are discussed.
