Abstract:Intensive development of land, function and space could be realized through multifunctional integration. It is a typical demand for cultural buildings in small and medium-sized cities in China and an inevitable trend for the development of low-carbon cities. The stacking and occupying of blocks are one of the common morphological design strategies to achieve architectural intensification. This paper explores the problems, responses, advantages and disadvantages of this strategy in architectural design at three levels: general layout, space organization, and construction means. This strategy is applied to the design of Dantu Culture and Art Center, which could provide case practice and practical reference for relevant architectural design of small and medium-sized cities in China.
