Abstract:Through Manyuan Village in Ganlanba District of Xishuangbanna, this research examines and analyses the constituent features of the vernacular architecture of the district in four aspects: courtyard plan, living room plan, building structure and construction from the perspective of prototype, law of change, type, and case. The perception of space has shifted from monolithic to systematic and from static to dynamic. The archetypes of vernacular architecture have evolved in the course of history, reflecting the changes in society. Specifically, changes in the spatial system correspond to shifts in lifestyle and ideology, while changes in the construction system correspond to economic development and shifts in social relations. Summarising the evolutionary pattern of the prototype of vernacular architecture in Manyuan Village provides a factual basis for the preservation of traditional the Dai ethnic group culture and vernacular architecture in Xishuangbanna. The construction diagram of architectural system also provides a referential visual language paradigm for the regeneration of vernacular architecture.
