Abstract:The interpretation of the spatial text of the Sacro Monte di Varallo, Italy, a World Heritage Site, from the perspective of spatial narrative helps to enhance the overall cognition of the value of the heritage and realize the protection of the heritage from ontology to meaning. With the theory of spatial narrative, and on the basis of reviewing the expression of narrative themes in the successive spatial creations of the Sacro Monte di Varallo, we focus on the analysis of the influence of spatial narrative types on spatial texts and spatial significance, and the adjustment of the organization of the paths of the places on the sequence of the narratives. We then propose that the preservation of spatial and temporal continuity of spatial texts is conducive to the continuation of multidimensional cognition, and that choosing the appropriate spatial structural organization helps to guide the experience of the narrators; identifying the important nodes of spatial narratives facilitates the analysis of the ways in which multiple narrative spaces unfold and the means of mobilizing narrative atmospheres.
