Abstract:Enhancing the age-friendliness of outdoor environments in urban old residential areas is a key focus of current urban renewal efforts in China. Based on tracking observations, questionnaire surveys, and interviews with elderly in the outdoor environments of three typical old residential areas in Shanghai, this study analyzes the composition, types, and trajectory characteristics of outdoor behaviors, and identifies the main influencing factors that shape different types of behavior settings, including leisure and social interaction behavior settings, family care behavior settings, and restorative behavior settings. From these analyses, the study reveals the generation and transition mechanisms of elderly outdoor behavioral settings. It also proposes suggestions for age-friendly modifications in the outdoor environment of old residential areas, providing a reference for designing environments that better accommodate the outdoor lives of the elderly.
