Abstract:Under the goal of accelerating the construction of an age-friendly city, this study focuses on the intergenerational caregiving phenomenon, selects the Shangqiao old residential area in Chongqing as the research site, and explores the adaptation relationship between the characteristics of its outdoor spaces and the behavioral preferences of intergenerational caregiving for preschool children. First, through needs assessment questionnaires and semi-structured interviews, it identifies four types of psychological, mobility, and agglomeration characteristics of outdoor behaviors among elderly-child caregiving groups. Then, from the perspective of spatial perception, it establishes a perception evaluation scale suitable for elderly-child interaction, which consists of 15 indicators across 5 dimensions, and uses this scale to evaluate 16 spatial samples. Furthermore, it conducts an in-depth analysis of the adaptation relationship between spatial characteristics and the caregivers’duration of stay during caregiving activities. Based on this, the study proposes three types of design optimization methods for typical outdoor spaces, providing references for the practice of residential environment renewal that adapts to the needs of intergenerational caregiving activities.
