The Needs and Its Influence Factors for Home Modification of the Elderly over 70 Years Old Living Alone: Based on the Survey Conducted in 5 Typical Chinese Big Cities
Abstract：Based on the survey data in 5 typical Chinese big cities, home modification needs of the elderly living alone were identified. The analysis result shows that more than 40% of the homes for the elderly are expected to be modified. The most notable home modification needs of the elderly are associated with the safety. The primary housing problem of the elderly refers to the deficient space of bathrooms and kitchens. Several specific demographic characteristics of the elderly and housing characteristics have significant influences on home modification needs. Additionally, there are some inadequacies of the recipient selection criteria of home modification in age and disability of the elderly.
