Research of the Reverse Method for Facade Color Characteristics Generation of Traditional Chinese Vernacular Dwellings: The Case of Shen’ao Village in Tonglu, Zhejiang
Abstract：Some newly-built and renovated projects in contemporary rural and residential areas in China present the problems of incongruity of architectural styles and disappearance of regional features. Many architects and scholars take the extraction and translation of architectural vocabulary as a design method to solve these problems. Whilst looking at the three typical spaces of Shen’ao village, this study introduces panoramic photography, aerial image modeling and image-processing software methods apart from the traditional method of manual survey and block filling. Through the application of qualitative comparison, quantitative analysis and empirical deduction process, the correlation coefficient and formula are obtained to achieve the accurate extraction method of panoramic synthesis combined with image analysis. Finally, a fast, accurate and convenient method of extracting color vocabulary from traditional dwellings can be established to provide architects with a quantitative reference for the design translation of modern color and material characteristics.
