Abstract:Historic urban area is the carrier of local cultural continuity, and its evolution and development is a continuous spatial production process. It is of great significance to reveal its spatial change characteristics and driving mechanism for the protection and utilization of historical urban areas. Based on the perspective of space production, this paper analyzes the renewal characteristics and mechanism of Xi'an Mingcheng district from the perspective of “power capital society” from 2000 to 2020, and finds that the cultural policy leads the renewal plot to present the distribution law along the historical elements of “axis gathering and circle surrounding”. The main body of the renewal mostly consists in the government, capital or government capital cooperation. Under the influence of its ideology and production logic, there are such spatial alienation phenomena as functional replacement, traditional texture integration, and residents' loss. The paper further analyzes the goal demands and renewal logic of different stakeholders in the process of participating in the renewal of the historic city, and the right relationship that is not balanced in the game process, thus leading to the space reconstruction meeting the demands of specific subjects. From a practical perspective, this case has a reference significance for the protection and utilization of historic districts in the process of urbanization.
