Influenced by the Self-Strengthening Movement, the local government purchased the Whampoa docks and conducted a series of construction projects including Whampoa Dockyard, Torpedo Factory,Marine Mine Factory and The Naval and Military College from the 1870s to the 1880s. All of them were sited on Changzhou Island and made the military and industrial center in Kwangtung Province. This paper tries to analyze the spatial distribution of the projects through investigation on their organization, implementation and the production of space, then to reconstruct the landscape of historical spaces.
