Abstract：Ancestral hall of surname association reflects the adaptability of Chinese traditional architecture in modern social change. In modern Xiamen, as one of the important participants, overseas Chinese took part in space production for the purpose of ideal city. The transformation of ancestral hall of surname association in modern Xiamen could be seen as the special practice of space production. Based on field investigation, combined with historical and morphological spatial pattern analysis, this paper discusses the location, layout, architecture, and function of ancestral hall of surname association in Xiamen and summarizes the characteristics of modernization transformation under the background of modern port city evolution in order to provide a theoretical research basis for the protection and reuse of ancestral hall of surname association in Xiamen.
