Abstract:As an important place for residents to realize social needs and perceive livability, the existing community public spaces often experience a misalignment between their provision and the daily behavioral needs of citizens. Designers, in their current approach, lack an understanding of the spatial formation mechanisms under the influence of the “spatial-behavioral” adaptation. Traditionally planned public spaces often overlook the subjectivity of residents and do not focus on people’s “presence experience”, which is pre-determined and does not effectively characterize the “spatial-behavioral” interaction. Thus, the research takes informal spaces as a starting point to investigate the mechanisms behind the formation of community public spaces driven by the “spatial-behavioral” adaptation relationship. Employing quantitative analysis, diagrams and visualization techniques, the research aims to build an optimized design library that better meets the daily behavioral needs of citizens. By exploring the new paradigm of the “people-environment” relationship, the research provides a more grounded basis for the humanized and refined design of community public spaces in the context of urban stock renewal.
