Abstract：To explore the logic behind the similar forms of expression in Baeza’s designs, a typological approach is employed to classify and study all his architectural schemes from his mature period to the present. Meanwhile, graphic analysis and sketch reading methods are used to analyze typical cases. Baeza’s works can be categorized into five distinct design types based on formal elements, each corresponding to specific environmental and spatial characteristics. Through the analysis of three typical cases within the virtual box/platform type, it is evident that when confronting common design issues, the designer generates reasonable variations in the expression of the same type by dealing with different aspects such as site environment, functional scale and type, and opening method. This study reveals the implicit typological logic in Baeza’s design and sorts out the similarities and differences in architectural form treatment between different types as well as in the application of the same type, which is conducive to grasping his creation rules.
