Abstract:The northern coastal area has unique natural and humanistic characteristics, but its rural areas are affected by Economic Zones, and the development and renewal are affected by urbanization, and the rural fabric and the original living environment have been destroyed. Rural self-built houses have lost the suitability of traditional dwellings, and have not achieved the convenience like that of urban dwellings also. This paper first conducts measurements and statistical analysis of regional meteorological and geomorphic data, and looks at 67 villages (0-150 km from the coastline). Based on field investigations and data analysis, it then analyzes their housing forms quantitatively, and reveals the differentiation features, development and transformation laws with time. At last, it finds that modern housing is biased towards functional needs but lacks environmental adaptability. Therefore, it proposes that the direction, process and style of rural housing development need to be controlled. The residential renewal should conform to the law, and pay attention to natural adaptation and cultural inheritance. The change of architectural form should be moderate rather than being abrupt.
