Abstract:From the founding of the People’s Republic of China to the eve of Reform and Opening-up, along with socialist industrialization, a large number of new workers’ villages were planned and built in Guangzhou. Looking back at the phased evolution of its design and construction mode, it was obviously influenced by the technology transfer of the Soviet Union and other countries in terms of building material structure, plan layout and spatial form, and industrialization standardization system, which was not only absorbed and responded to, but also reflected and cautiously discarded, reflecting the strong pursuit of climate adaptability and Lingnan tradition. This interaction has the potential to have a lasting impact on residential architecture, settlement planning and the cityscape of our country. The interaction between the absorption of foreign technology and the adaptation of local adaptability in the planning and construction process of Guangzhou Workers’ New Village is an important embodiment of its rich and diverse heritage value, which should be paid special attention to in the identification of heritage.
