Abstract:The imperative of climate adaptation in coastal spatial planning requires a comprehensive approach that results in ecological, social, and economic benefits. The Netherlands is renowned for its expertise in land reclamation initiatives. Applying qualitative methods consisting of content analysis and morphological analysis, this paper collects 16 nature-based solutions of coastal reclamation in Dutch since 2010 and extracts “building with nature” tactics. The Marker Wadden project is selected as a representative case. The synthesis of its ecological strategies and the management innovations are summarised. This article posits the ecological shift in the coastal reclamation of the Netherlands, providing a reference for coastal spatial planning in China.
