Abstract：The research of “authenticity” is one about the basic value of architectural regionalism. Different comprehension of the concept leads to different horizon and paradigm of regional architectural research. By reviewing regionalism research and practices including critical regionalism, this article argues that previous regionalism research was always based on the essence of locality to explore the authenticity of region. But this research perspective has its limitation. The article proposes that regional authenticity should be studied from the perspective of social construction, and develops an analytical framework responding to the current situation of globalization, by which we can explain and evaluate the mechanism of evolution of regionality under historical and cross-regional (global) effects. It aims to build up a socio-spatial and critical research framework based on cross-regional regionality.
