Abstract:The objective of large-scale rural heritage protection would not be achieved without the popularization of heritage protection. According to the experiences in the West, besides the maturity of protection theory and technology, the sense of national crisis and respect for the individual are the two deep-seated reasons for the success of heritage protection. Cultural heritage is closely linked to national identity, which is further related to state cohesion, and the education, development, and freedom of individual citizen, which is vital to life quality and the capability of creative thinking. When these links come true, the popularization of heritage protection would be realized, and the protection cost will be shared by the whole society, which makes the large-scale protection possible.
