Abstract：After a period of rapid development in the real estate industry, China has entered the era of residential building stock. This paper takes the Japanese architect Shigeru Aoki as an entry point to explore the development of Japanese building regeneration theories through the study of his“refining architecture”theory and practices. It also provides an overview of the development of the theories and practices related to residential building regeneration in China. The study expounds on the conceptual connotation of building regeneration and the inspiration for the regeneration of residential buildings in China. It points out that the construction of a local building regeneration theoretical system is crucial to the development of related industrial fields in China and is an important means to achieve the sustainable development of residential buildings in China.
