Abstract:During the process of wayfinding, consumers usually need to form their overall cognition of the architectural space by constructing the correlation of each local segment. Based on VR wayfinding experiments, this paper conducts studies on environment-cognition-behavior in different layouts by collecting individuals’ wayfinding trajectories and cognitive maps of the two cases of Haxi Wanda Plaza and CapitaMall in Harbin. By comparing the objective and subjective data from the perspective of spatial layouts, it analyzes the mechanism of how architectural characteristics make an impact on individuals’ wayfinding and cognitive behavior. It also leads to a discussion about the merits and demerits of two typical layout features, and provides theoretical support and practical references to commercial complex interior design.
