Abstract：Shared housing design has expanded rapidly in Japan since the decade of the 21th century. Because of its low rent, convenient living facilities and abundant opportunities to interact with people, it has become an indispensable part of the rental housing in Japan. Based on the investigation and case studies of shared housing in Japan, the author expounds the development and status of Japanese shared housing from the aspects of space facilities, product type, sharing mode and operation, and analyses the design strategy of shared living space from the perspective of living behavior and spatial organization.
