Abstract：The development of garden buildings is a major aspect in the modernization of gardens. Chinese garden buildings changed radically in styles, materials and functions in the modern era, which made modern gardens distinctive in the Chinese garden history. There were multiple motives of the modernization process, including the change of technology, economics, and society. However, among all these driving forces, technological innovations played the most important role in the process. Through case studies of modern gardens in Wuxi, this paper analyzes the garden buildings in four different categories, and discusses the achievement of these cases both in technology and aesthetics. It reveals the complicated directions of the development of garden buildings in the modern era, and the influence and meaning of change of architectural technology for modern gardens
