Abstract:This paper interprets the connotations of traditional Uygur dwellings in Xinjiang based on an architectural anthropological perspective. The spatial structure of traditional Uygur dwellings and the logic of the organization of their architectural elements are analyzed through the various cultural traditions and living customs, including family clustering and gender division, interaction and privacy, and ritual and routine. Therefore this study aims to understand the ideological connotations and spirit of place embedded in the logic of residential construction through the culture and ethnic customs, the view of nature and values. Additionally, the interconnections between regional, cultural and religious traditions with Uygur dwellings are reinterpreted, thus a better understanding of the correlation between living customs and residential space. This research provides new ideas for the rural comfortable-housing project and the beautiful countryside construction.
