Abstract:In response to the phenomenon of both compatibility and mutual exclusion in the use of public space by villagers and tourists in the tourism-oriented villages, this research adopts the“public spacepublic Life”(PSPL) survey method to observe the gathering or staying behavior of the villagers and tourists, in order to summarize the similarities and differences of space preference, aiming at exploring the formation mechanism of compatible or exclusive use of space. The research findings show that the compatible space is influenced by functional positioning, business entities, cultural concepts, facilities and social distance, forming three modes: simultaneous mixed use, time-sharing use and sharing use in similar type but different points. Meanwhile the exclusive space is divided into four types, namely, public-private boundary type, functionally occupied type, unshared space type and psychological mutually exclusive type, due to privacy demand, function commercialization, sharing failure and uneven benefit distribution. The research provides the basis of optimizing compatible space, limiting or transforming mutually exclusive space to improve the sharing degree of the public space in tourism-oriented villages.
