Abstract:As one of the most important historical border crossings between Hong Kong and Canton, the land port of Luohu has evolved into a gateway of a new urban region, with the shaping of a spatial system for public activities. Through reviewing the morphological and spatial history of Kowloon Customs-Luohu Port at the two levels of borderline and border crossing, this paper provides a method of understanding the universal evolutionary process of the land port, and seeks the possible solutions to neutralize the “border hardening” phenomenon from the historical study. The outcome of the research constitutes a general reference for a reasonable and sustainable renewal of the land port space.
