Abstract:Virtual Reality (VR) technology is a kind of computer simulation system that can create and experience virtual world. VR will provide new means of spatial cognition of architectural design, reduce the cognitive threshold of architectural discipline and promote the cognitive iteration of architectural space. On the basis of discussing the difficulties of traditional architectural spatial cognition, including the time-consuming experience accumulation, non-human perspective design and high cognitive threshold of discipline, this paper puts forward the features of VR architectural spatial cognition, including immersive experience, humanistic perspective and dynamic decision-making, and summarizes the technical role of VR in spatial cognition in the early stage, middle stage and later stage of architectural design. VR technology can recognize the reality of architectural space from a humanistic perspective and realize the holographic and nondestructive cognitive communication of architectural design information, which will certainly promote the reform of theory and practice of architectural space cognition.
