Abstract:This paper reviews the development history of elderly facilities in China during the last ten years from the aspects of policies and regulations, project orientation, pension mode, caring conception, operation management and architectural design under the social background of population aging. Through case studies, it analyses prominent problems of current elderly facility design, such as blind copy of design codes, lack of long-term consideration and insufficient coordination between software and hardware. Based on the present situation, it prospects the development trends of elderly facilities in China during the 13th Five-Year Plan, including design and reform of elderly housing, construction of regional comprehensive elderly facilities, and the combination of medical service and elderly facilities.
