Abstract：It is generally believed that settlement is the basic unit as a result of people’s living in a compact community, and also the specific location of the community. However, traditional settlement is not only the physical form of a local society, but also the ethical expression of social relationships. The study of settlements therefore needs a systematic perspective or approach. Hegel holds that philosophy cannot be a science without a systematic structure. System not only has a strict logical structure, but also presents as an integral logical process. This paper analyses its logical start and basic propositions of traditional settlement in order to provide a basis for its systematic study.
