Abstract：Dali ancient city is located in the Pingba area between Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake, which contains valuable construction wisdom. With the changes of the times, the ancient city has formed an environmental pattern of “water around the green hills and the mountains around the city, and mountains surrounded by green in different seasons”. Local residents rely on the unique natural environment elements, such as Cangshan Mountain, Erhai Lake, streams, topography etc., and they have carried out some artificial constructions. Based on the theory of ecosystem, this paper analyzes the characteristics of the natural ecosystem, semi natural ecosystem and artificial ecosystem and the related environmental impact factors. It explores the ecological environment balance mechanism of the ancient city, and summarizes its unique construction methods and ecological wisdom. It aims to provide some inspirations for the planning and design of contemporary urban and rural settlements.
