Abstract:Based on the theory of holistic regionalism and with the methods of literature research and field research, this paper analyzes the inheritance and innovation of traditional Red Brick Culture through the study of the New Red-brick Building built in Quanzhou City since the Reform and Opening-up, with the exterior facade and material details as the point of departure. It summarizes the 40-year development process of Quanzhou New Red-brick Building: the representation of typical regional elements in the first period (1978—1994), the eclectic imitation of cultural contexts in the second period (1995—2000), the multiple extension of cultural context in the third period (2001—2011), and the imagery extension of cultural context in the fourth period (2012—2018). Through the in-depth analysis of the characteristics in each period, the paper aims at providing beneficial architectural practice and theory for its further development.
