Abstract：Dong Yugan’s garden practice has constructed the vocabulary and structure of garden based on self-experience and the ancient method, thus has completed the conversion from traditional garden programs to contemporary garden languages. This paper tries to appreciate the fascinating aspect of Dong Yugan’s garden practice through the analysis of dwelling situation and the experience of the body in the garden making, and the physical property and poetic aspects of the garden practice in the perspective of architectural phenomenology. At the same time, the author points out the limitations of the concepts of time and space in Dong’s garden practice.
