Abstract：As an important Lingnan modern architect, She Junnan’s garden making thought has had a profound impact on the development of modern Lingnan and Chinese garden. This article based on the masterpieces of She Junnan, firstly summarizes his garden making process into three main phases: exploration, development, and climax. With the three cases of Guangzhou Friendship Theatre, Guangzhou Dongfang Hotel New Building, and Guangzhou White Swan Hotel, it then reveals the contemporary social situation, and shows his evolving garden making concepts: the gardens as a means of embodying the regional characteristics of Lingnan culture; the expression of the notion of“design for people”with the modernist spirit; and the return to the exploration of the cultural significance of Chinese garden tradition in the international context
