Abstract:Based on summarizing the theories of architectural environmental regulation using “type” as the link, this essay puts forward and elucidates the conception of “architectural thermodynamic model” with main points. It then takes four typical samples as a comparative study after the analysis of the typological evolution of courtyard dwellings from four typical climatic regions in China, establishes the architectural thermodynamic model consisting of three core factors called “shape-space type, spatial climate-gradient and climatic regulating-interface”. It tries to reveal the spatial regularity and the characteristic of energybased formation in different regions, and explore the mechanism of environmental regulation and the principle of typological construction from the evolution process about vernacular architecture.
