Abstract：Prefabricated assembly technology has been gradually become the key construction method of contemporary building. As an efficient off-site construction technology, modern architects have paid increasing attention to it. However, the early prefabrication technology came into conflicts with the uniqueness of sites and the individuality of building art form. As a result, the development of prefabrication had been restricted. Not until the development of information technology, the flexible tool could be used to support expression of identical form for some building design idea, architects began to accept and apply the prefabrication technology to figure the new building identity of the time. This article elaborates the influence on building identity conducted by the development of prefabrication technology from the different aspects of historical process. Under the background that the prefabricated buildings have become a growing industry in China, the article could offer some valuable references for those architects who are exploring the ways of how to fit in with the needs of technological changes and use prefabrication technologies to construct buildings with high quality and unique identity
